Ah, there you are! The town is in danger. Zwolle was under fire overnight! Yesterday morning we banished Karel, the Duke of Gelre from the city. Now he stands before the Sassenpoort (city gate) with a huge army! I wasn't the only one woken by a cannon shot! Karel has modern battle weapons, but we must do everything in our power to keep him outside of our city walls. Isaac, the officer of the watch, is here. He's standing in the corner and was looking for you. I don't know why, but go to him quickly. We have no time to lose!

The city of Zwolle is under attack! Yesterday we banished our duke, Karel van Gelre, from the city after... er... some disagreements... Now he's back, and last night he attacked the city! It's a real battlefield out there. He's gone crazy! We must do everything in our power in order to defend the city. He has penetrated the Sassenpoort (city gate). The whole street in front of the Sassenpoort has been devastated! Fortunately, we've been able to drive them back just outside the gate for a while. But the Duke's army seems to be stronger than ours. They even have cannons! You can recognize the enemy soldiers from the red color on their clothing.

I can't expect much from you as a Kampenaar, but after the stories about those thieves in the secret passages, I came looking for you anyway. You seem to be good with weapons, and that is exactly what we need! Moreover, as the city falls into the hands of Karel, you can forget about your stay in Zwolle. If you want to help us, you will have to report to the Commander... he's arranging the defense at the Sassenpoort. But be quick; it won't be long before the enemy puts up another assault! Good luck; I'm counting on you! You can get directly to the Sassenpoort from the upper floor behind the inn.

So Kampenaar, were you also awakened by the bang? Karel delivered quite a blow with his cannons. Worthless things they are; reloading takes forever, and the odds of a hit are one in ten. Good luck destroying our huge city wall. Ha ha. Isaac is waiting for you. He wants to talk to you. Regardless, don't look up to him. He's only an officer of the watch: always working to arrange our safety, but when the chips are down, he's just a coward. Do you still have my bow and arrow? Good. Your weapons will be desperately needed in the coming days.
