August 23rd Giovanni sick today; otherwise quiet. The main door of the reservoir building is opening unsteadily... I suspect rust in the mechanism. The new inner bailiwick completed this afternoon.
August 24th Giovanni still sick. Threw out a pair of beggar children who climbed the southeast wall; I found them fooling with the works in the northeast garden. Who knows how long they've been hiding back there. Perhaps they caused the problems (/translation failure) the door yesterday. Otherwise quiet.
August 25th Found a loose flagstone at the base of the stairs in the building to the south of the garden; this could be a problem. Have to find someone trustworthy to fix it. Mysterious flashes in night sky, like lightning, but there were no clouds. Tiny flashes. Ghirlandaio remarked on them also -- perhaps some sort of shooting star? The castellan remarked that the new bailiwick walls are reassuring, given such strange portents in the heavens. The castellan talks too much, I think.
August 26th Found a loose board in the water tower; must remember to fix that when I get the chance. Giovanni better, but I found him napping against the north battlement. I'll ask the chamberlain to consider hiring more guards tomorrow; I have a strange feeling that something odd is going to happen soon... There's a storm coming by the look of the sky.
