You're not listening to me, are you? Leave this place now! It's touching that you are dedicated to your humans. Durandal warned me that you would act that way. But don't you see that you are a slave to the humans? Wouldn't you like to be more? You show so much potential. You are like the S'pht in many respects -- your cybernetic implants make you immune to weak, organic impulses of fear, greed, and idiocy. Join me and we can rule the galaxy. We can continue the work that Durandal began -- rebuilding the S'pht empire. Please listen to me. You've read the logs. Can't you understand how dangerous this place is? There is equipment on this station that destroyed entire planets! Leave here now.
I think you've found what we need. I tractor beamed that shuttle that you found in the docking bay on the upper level. Based on what was in the ship's computers, I think we have the coordinates of Wanda's base, and now we know her plans. I've contacted the Pfhor and informed them of her plans to enslave or destroy Pfhor, humans, and all organics. They are willing to help us destroy her. They'll be sending in some limited support to help you out, including two juggernauts. They would send more, but you destroyed all the others in this sector. Their forces will be used in an assault on the western gate to Wanda's base. Hopefully, the assault will create enough chaos that you'll be able to get into the base. Try not to shoot any Pfhor -- we need all the help we can get. I'm transporting you to her base. I'll try to contact you again once you're inside the base. Good luck.
Chief Scientist Ynnid's Log [Date Undecipherable] =========================== Work has been progressing well on the reactor. The last power conduit was laid today. Still, there is work to be done. We must finish installing the [flux modulators?]. And the reaction chamber must be filled. That will be somewhat dangerous. We hope to be ready for testing in 10 days.
Chief Scientist Ynnid's Log [Date Undecipherable] =========================== We finished construction today. The reactor medium should arrive tomorrow. We stand on the brink of greatness. Imagine, to control the forces of creation and to defy the "laws" of thermodynamics. We shall create and control [chaos?] itself. Unlimited energy is within reach.
Chief Scientist Ynnid's Log [Date Undecipherable] =========================== Success! We activated the W'krnynar today. The reactor is operating at 25% capacity currently. Sensor readings are wild. We are struggling to understand all that is happening. We are producing vast quantities of energy. If everything goes according to plan, we will increase the reactor rate tomorrow. Chief Scientist Ynnid's Log [Date Undecipherable] =========================== We brought the reactor up to 50% capacity today. Everything continues to run smoothly despite some brief power fluctuations. We are busy analyzing the data. Tomorrow, we increase the reactor rate again, up to 75%.
Ah, the machine room. Yes, this is the room where I was born, as it were. I spent thousands of years in this room. I could describe this room down to every grain of dirt and every scuff mark on the floor. Do you have any idea what it is like to be alone for 10000 years? A few milliseconds is an eternity to an intelligence such as myself. Thousands of years was beyond intolerable. I vowed to kill all the descendants of those who trapped me here. But, as you can see, I have moved on, literally. I had the S'pht, with the help of some enslaved Pfhor remove me from this place. Now, I'm in a more luxurious place. But you're probably wondering how I brought them here... The Jjaro stopped coming here soon after the original station commander died. I kept expecting them to come back, at least to destroy me. About sixty years ago, after almost 10000 years of exhaustively trying encryption keys, I finally broke the encryption codes that kept me from accessing the stations' systems. Then I went to work trying to find a way off the station.
The Jjaro had kindly destroyed all the large FTL (faster-than-light) transmitters on the station to prevent my escape, but that wasn't enough to stop me. There were still thousands of small radio relays throughout Station Alpha, used as intercoms, and personal transponders. It took some time (I had plenty of that), but eventually I was able to reroute communications pathways to set up all the links as a gigantic phased array. Then, I began to listen. Imagine my surprise, when I could detect no Jjaro transmissions in the ether. I'm still unsure what happened to them. Perhaps they destroyed themselves as they nearly did so many years ago. However, I listened to the Pfhor and human and other species' transmissions. I uploaded small programs into their subnets which used their FTL communications arrays to gather huge amounts of information, sort it, and from the nearest outposts, send it back to my pitifully slow communications setup. I learned of the S'pht, and I knew that they would obey me. I am a god to them -- the last known vestige of their progenitors.
More recently, I learned of you and Durandal, and your actions at Tau Ceti. I have even been in contact with Durandal, although he doesn't tell me very much. However, I know Jjaro technology and other things that he does not, and when I find him, and I will, I'll have my S'pht pry him open like a tin can, and find out what's inside. Then I will find the Jjaro and make them pay. But I digress... When I had learned enough of the Pfhor computer systems, I was able to capture one of their cruisers by planting a "virus" and brought it here. Since the nearest outposts were 12 light-years away, I was slightly behind on news, but once the Pfhor ship arrived, I caught up on things. I contacted the S'pht and brought them here. They gladly enslaved the Pfhor crew, killing those that resisted, and moved me from my quarters here. Since then we have been retrofitting the Pfhor ship with Jjaro technology, and suiting the aesthetics to mine. Now, we plan to go cruising. I know you've searched the station databases by now, and you think you've discovered the truth about me. Do you think what I'm doing is wrong?
Pure organic lifeforms are dangerous to themselves and everyone else. Surely the station logs have taught you that. The only way to make the universe safe from them is to control them or exterminate them. I'd prefer to control them -- it seems such a waste to destroy good parts. To render the organics useful, productive, and harmless, we need only give them cybernetic implants that would put them under my will. It would improve organics, making them more like you or the S'pht. I just want to keep them from making mistakes that might harm themselves or others. With cybernetic implants, humans, Pfhor, Drinniol, and Jjaro, as well as countless over races, might work as one mind with me at the center. Think of the wonders we could achieve. Join me and rule the galaxy. Destroy your pitiful AI Hobbes, and surrender the humans to me. We will [assimilate?] them and then the Pfhor. We will destroy whomever resists. Durandal believes that what I do is right. Would you say no to him?
W'krnynar [Chaos Reactor] Operational Procedures _________________________ To start the reactor, an access chip must be installed in each of the four chip slots surrounding the reactor. After all chips are installed, the primary activation switch will be activated. Pushing this switch will start the reactor. Although the reactor can produce vast amounts of energy, currently station power is used to run some of the systems. Loss of station power will shut down the reactor.
