You know, I just remembered something. You mentioned that mainframe access would tell you more about the ship and that sort of thing. I did. Why didn't you mention anything? You said you didn't care. Fair enough. But now I do care. Of course you do. Well, er, most of that information is actually still classified. This encryption method is far more difficult than I had originally anticipated. The shipboard AI must have been especially devious; there's no organic being in the universe that could solve this. What do you know? Anything in regards to this familiar sensation?
Well, I can make the obvious deduction: this is the ship on which we were originally constructed. ... This leads to some straightforward counterarguments, though. Why wouldn't we remember this more clearly? That is to say, why wouldn't I remember it? You aren't exactly known for your mental capacity. This doesn't look like a factory. Certainly, it doesn't. This ship probably served many purposes, and one of it was either to construct us or house us for some extended period of time. Why we ever left is still a mystery; from what I can tell, there's more available energy for us to consume than I could have ever expected. You'll find out more about this as you progress, though, right?
Presumably. Now, on to business. The ship's teleportation array is protected from all unauthorized teleportation access. The only way for us to reach it, therefore, is to find an authorized teleporter. There's one such in this section of the derelict. Where? There's a small service hangar; it appears that the terminal is near it, but of course it's on the opposite side of this region. You will have to find the way over there on your own. Of course. It's never simple. Of course. Well, it is fairly simple, if all I have to do is open doors. Right. Alright, then. I'll get to it, I suppose. Please do.
This ship is especially fascinating. Oh yeah? How so? The construction of the innermost compartments of the starship -- the first seven -- seems to have been completed several millenia ago. Millenia. Thousands of years. I know how long a millenium is, thanks. Just making sure. At any rate, I'm pretty sure we aren't that old. Pretty sure? What do you mean by that? You know, you're the one in charge of all of the computery tasks for a reason. Keeping these things in line is your exclusive responsibility. That's, like, all you do. How do you not know how old we are? It has never crossed my half of our mind. As a non-tangible AI system, I don't often consider ourselves in a state of aging; we aren't organic.
Anyway, the ship seems to have been constructed over the course of several hundred years by some ancient species. Why they abandoned the ship is beyond me, but whoever they were, they were masters of their craft. It may appear to be a derelict, but that's merely the byproducts of rusting metal and decay from convection generated by all of the slag that they left lying around. Yes, and we're made with the same sort of craftsmanship. This isn't that shocking, really; we've taken plenty of abuse at the hands of the insects, but our physical subroutines still run at over 99% effectiveness. I suppose you're right. It's still a ponderous situation.
This seems to be the end of the line. Am I done with this area yet? Why, are you in a hurry? We hunger. It wears me down. Yes, of course. To answer your question, no, you aren't. This is the proper terminal from which I can teleport you into the array; unfortunately, however, it appears you require a security pass as well. Why don't you bring these things up? It's the first time I've seen such a redundant design. Anyway, look for some kind of card and return here with it. I'm sure they make many copies of this card, so just go find one. It can't be that difficult. Fine, fine.
