This cannot be healthy, so I propose that everyone should just calm down a little bit. No one should be making the argument that discussion of pudding is unnecessary because of the existence of ice cream. And don't try to tell me that pudding can have NO flavor, because even if it's just eggs and milk, it would have some flavor. Now, I suppose if you don't have any added flavor, no one would find it appealing.

Orange pudding, for example, has plenty of flavor, and has its advocates and detractors. However, you won't find orange pudding in any supermarket. It's an award-winning confectioner's delight, whose past is long and storied... but essentially it's a layer of cured chunked oranges beneath a layer of custard beneath a layer of meringue. This brings up an interesting question: is the pudding flavored orange, or is there simply a fruit additive to unflavored custard? This sort of issue seems common with the fruit puddings (for example, consider southern banana pudding, which is unflavored pudding with vanilla wafers, bananas, and meringue). I think it's unclear whether orange pudding is really "flavored" pudding, or whether it's a confection which has as one of its ingredients unflavored pudding.

It now occurs to me that unflavored puddings like southern banana pudding work fine, because they are sweetened! If the pudding is both unflavored and unsweetened, it would be thoroughly unappetizing! Man, I haven't had pudding in a long time. Though I must say the homemade peach cobbler today was good, if a little undercooked. If you have time between retrieving failstaches, could you please ask the local compilers for some pudding? I heard they specialize in orange pudding.
