Welcome back! You have been in cryogenic suspension for almost 5 years. I put you down in a hostile environment to get your reflexes going after so long a time. Nothing personal... The story so far: About 6 months ago we lost all contact with one of our deep space exploration and research vessels. A VEGA-class patrol ship sent out to investigate found the ship drifting in space with several of its crew members missing and the remaining ones all dead. The computer system was badly damaged but they were able to download some of the log entries and discovered that the crew had been investigating a strange energy field they had detected emanating from the first planet in the Alderia system only a few lightyears away.

Soon after the patrol ship reached Alderia-prime Earth Central Control again lost all contact. This time they decided to send us in to find out what is going on and 'fix' the problem. Anything on the planet should be considered hostile. In case you are wondering, I am the AI controlling your ship. My name is HYPERION. Earth Central Control considers this a high risc mission. That is why they did not send any real soldiers along, but selected a bunch of violent criminals from several detention facilities, who were offered freedom in return (should they survive). My orders are clear. I am to bring you to the planet and let you do as much as possible alone, since the "soldiers" cannot be trusted. Besides, your service record indicates that you prefer to work alone. The volunteers are expendable.

You are now on Alderia-prime, a class K planet. A scan of the planet's surface has revealed several structures, most of which are shielded. My sensors and teleporters cannot penetrate these shields. The building you are in now appears to be one of the power generator stations. I have restricted access to the computer system and from what I can tell you have to destroy a control panel located behind the security door to your right. I have indicated most relevant information on this small map. Again I'm sorry that I dropped you in the middle of what must have appeared like a major war zone to you, but it was a good warm-up exercise, don't you think so?? Good luck...

Your actions have been successful. The controls that regulate the shields have been destroyed and I am now able to take sensor readings of the entire Pfor military complex (did you notice it too: we seem to have run into a Pfhor outpost). It appears we are just in time. A few weeks later and we might have been up against a huge force. Now it seems that you will be able to stop them alone, or perhaps with the help of these so called soldiers, if things get out of control. I will teleport you directly into the heart of the now unshielded complex. It's still heavily guarded of course. Prepare for the worst! Good luck.

[Hyperion:] I also found a reference here to a new security regulation, issued by the (?leader?) of the alien forces here. It says that all important areas "are to be guarded extremely well, preferrably by juggernauts" (diagram left). Now where did we encounter these beast earlier? Could it be that this is a Pfhor world? One that escaped our attention during the great war? Remember that you do not have to kill the aliens here (but don't let that stop you). Read the terminal in the room where I dropped you off. It will give you more mission background information.
