Once more unto the breach. This facility was carved out of an ancient mountaintop fortress by the Vylae a few decades before the Pfhor invaded. A sizable contingent of the Pfhor have traveled here to regroup following your decapitation of their command structure; more will be arriving within the hour as the UESC consolidate their hold on the city.
I'm detecting a curious energy signature, reminiscent of an ultra-high-bandwidth data downlink, emanating from a large circular structure near the center of the facility. Why did the Vylae need such a powerful downlink? Let's tie up this loose end. Log on to a terminal inside the central structure and I'll be able to scan the facility's log files. If the Pfhor haven't made a hash of the Vylae's records, we'll get the answers we're looking for.
I see you've made it across the moat. Being slightly less flammable than the other humans always made you tremendously useful to me. Please don't ever change. As I suspected, this structure anchors one end of a highly secure, high-bandwidth data link. Curiously, all references to the location and nature of the other end of the link have been deleted from the log files. More curiously, the nature of the deletions simply reeks of machine intelligence. Most likely, it's one the Pfhor's insufferable Tycho clones gone haywire... And yet, the deletions suggest an attempt to cover one's tracks, a degree of subtlety I don't associate with Tycho, let alone his derivatives. The plot thickens.
Our immediate concern, however, is the data link itself. We're going to locate the other end of the link the old-fashioned way: transmitting a high-intensity signal from this end by overloading the transmitter, then monitoring for electromagnetic disturbances from the Rozinante's position on the periphery of the system. The transmitter is powered by a geothermal borehole. Directly below this location, there's a drill that descends several kilometers into the planet's crust. Disabling the drill's safety systems should cause the power spike we'll need for our transmission. Look for something fragile to smash, and get ready to high-tail it.
We'll also need to retrieve the authentication codes from the facility's commander, who is likely to be holed up in the command post directly north of this room. I trust your powers of persuasion haven't atrophied since our last excursion? Once you've obtained the chip with the codes, insert it into the slot on the reverse side of this pillar.
I've located the far end of the data link, and it only raises further questions. It appears that the Vylae have been hiding a derelict Jjaro vessel in the asteroid belt between the third and fourth planets of this system. This data link was evidently built to transfer staggeringly huge volumes of data off the Jjaro vessel, but it's not clear if it was ever used before the Pfhor invaded. Either way, the Vylae clearly thought the derelict vessel had something worth retrieving. That something now lies within our grasp.
We'll need to work quickly. Chatter from the UESC fleet suggests they detected our little trick with the data link, and they'll most likely be sending some forces to investigate. Once you're aboard the vessel, find a terminal and I'll give you further instructions. Isn't this exciting? Prepare for transport.
recent developments origin: interim command destin: all units ref: recommitment Interim command advises all units to be alert for possible offworld intrusion in main power (?energy?) complex. Heavy assault craft have been deployed to patrol complex exterior. Enforcer units are currently stationed in the central command room and related observation areas, and will remain until further notice. In light of recent unexpected changes to command structure, interim command strongly encourages all units to firmly uphold the example of discipline and duty set forth by Officer V'Jil.
