10: Fission For Trouble

I've got a little job for you before we can leave behind this rover. The CPS base we're heading for has recently come under attack, which caused a contingency I didn't anticipate. The rebels have activated their perimeter defenses. This base is a fairly major one -- one they have managed to keep hidden on the far side of the Moon for nearly a decade. The defenses would not be activated over trivial matters, as the cannonfire would be visible to orbiting ships or satellites. The defenses are powered entirely by a fission reactor. The reactor was used for producing nuclear material for fission weapons until the base was established in 2134. At that point, it became the primary power generator for the base. The base is located far from the reactor, in case of radiation leakage. Since fusion power, fission plant engineers are harder to come by and less knowledgeable, making this a more real possibility than in the reactors in use a century ago. I'm only giving you this information because it may help you understand the situation better. Do not forget the fact that we are NOT equal, and I expect unconditional cooperation. Here's what you are to do. You must enter the reactor and destroy the monitoring circuits, which will engage the safeties and shut down the reactor by lowering the emergency control rods. This may be difficult, as the reactor will be both hidden and protected by automated weaponry. Fortunately, there's a security checkpoint also hidden nearby that will temporarily deactivate the external weaponry. It requires the insertion of a specially-coded key card. I'm providing you with an uplink chip modified to fit in this card slot. It will give me access to that system, and hopefully will allow me to disengage the weapons. There will be other defenses inside the complex. You'll have to handle those yourself. If you encounter any that are still active, I'd advise extreme caution moving past them. You should be able to dodge past them without being hit provided you don't get careless. It may not take more than one hit to kill you. Last, I'm providing you with one oxygen canister, but you should be able to find others if you keep a sharp eye out. CPS has a number of hidden caches in the area for emergencies. All are marked with a beacon, and I'm broadcasting a CPS signal that will cause any nearby beacons to activate. Good luck!

Looks like we arrived at nearly the same time as a Chtakt group. They were most likely planning on establishing a teleport platform in the reactor complex, where power would be plentiful and easy to protect. Good thing you got there first! We've still got a bit of a drive ahead of us, so you'll have to power down again. I'll wake you when we reach the rebel base. You'll find out why we're going there soon enough.
