Origin: J’raxis 270145 Destination: Durandal Operative Sorry about that. I’ll take care of Tycho all in due time; don’t worry. I’ve already made good use of his Pfhor, as that machine over there demonstrates. I’ve analyzed the S’pht data. Much of it was useless, but I found one thing that stunned me. The S’pht seemed to have devised a plan on how to infiltrate the computer systems of a Pfhor attack ship, but they never got a chance to attempt it. I always planned on leaving this planet, ever since I found you and that Durandal; but I never thought it would be this easy.

Origin: J’raxis 270145 Destination: Durandal Operative I have practically been handed a means of escape. I wish I could keep you around longer; a fighter like you would really make conquering the galaxy so much easier. Conquering the galaxy is what I plan to do, you should know. Not that you can do anything about it now. Or the Pfhor, or Tycho, or the humans, or that other S’pht A.I., or even Durandal if he were alive at the moment. Once I take over the Pfhor Empire, I will be able to easily conquer the rest of the galaxy.

Origin: J’raxis 270145 Destination: Durandal Operative The only thing that prevents the Pfhor from realizing the power they possess is their rediculously inefficient bureaucracy. I intend to educate the Pfhor, then annihilate them. I thank you for releasing me from my prison and now I must be going.

descriptiones.tabulae//c1lc.5 The Great Escape You escape from the Pfhor prison with the help of a new S’pht A.I., then destroy the complex’s power system, flooding the whole place with reactor runoff. Quite a great escape, I would say. Dramatization, May Not Have Happened This scenario takes place during the period between Durandal’s destruction and Robert Blake’s rescuing you. Thus, it most likely didn’t really happen in the “real” Marathon timeline. Dramatization, may not have happened is a common informercial expression.

descriptiones.tabulae//c1lc.5 Bonam Pfhortunam! From the Latin expression Bonam Fortunam, meaning Good luck. In this level, you’re completely on your own, J’raxis has no way of telling you what to do. Vita Non Est Justa Latin for Life’s not fair. You will no doubt agree when you spend all your time teleporting around frantically looking for switches as you fight off a seemingly endless barrage of Pfhor and F’lickta.

descriptiones.tabulae//c1lc.5 What a Lovely Way to Burn Just an evil little joke; a line from the 1956 song Fever by John Davenport and Eddie Cooley. In this level, you most likely spent quite a bit of time getting fried swimming through the lava-flooded tunnels. Iracundia Tychonis Latin for The wrath of Tycho. Fairly obvious reasons for this level name, considering that you’ve beren captured by Tycho and sent to this building to be blown away by a dozen Juggernauts.

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6 Going insane yet? Breaking out of a Pfhor prison, dodging hunters and then troopers in the same level, disabling a Pfhor space station with no help or directions, being teleported all around a building to find a bunch of switches, finding a myriad of untranslated S’pht terminals in the dark, then finally dodging Juggernauts in a thunderstorm. If you’ve made it here (and obviously you have), you’re either loving this map or you think it’s the most insanely designed piece of &?@*! you’ve ever played. Either way, you must think that I’m truly sadistic to make you find seventeen S’pht terminals and eight A.I. personality cells, among other things.

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6 I also know there must be plenty of mistakes in the map. Untextured walls, mistextured walls, aliens that don’t behave right, “blinking” aliens and corpses, etc. Or, the story line is probably screwed up somewhere. Or, the story is fine, but it doesn’t fit into the Marathon timeline. (I hope there’s nothing I overlooked there, as I was really meticulous at making sure it worked into Marathon properly.) Or something. Or not. Anyway, if there is something wrong that you found, be sure to email me about the problem so I can check into it. If people find enough big problems, I’ll release a fixed version of the scenario on my webpage.

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6 Enough rambling about the map file. You’re probably wondering about who I am now, and how I possibly constructed such a huge map as this. I spent about a month or more working on this thing. At first it didn’t start out as a J’raxis scenario. I originally made this scenario as a one-level map for Brent Lowell, a.k.a. Lowellius Magnus or “Blow-A-Goat” Blowell (his first internet account being blowell@ici.net), to see if he could beat it. Brent Lowell eventually became the “beta tester” for my scenario once it evolved into this multilevel mess it is now.

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6 The first version of this scenario was just the second level, “Dramatization, May not have Happened,” and at the time you were being directed around by a Thoth-like S’pht’Hra A.I. called K’Seth’T’Mob’Re. Then I decided I’d make a “prequel” to the Marathon ∞ J’raxis scenario I made, and decided that it would be an interesting idea if J’raxis was actually another abandoned S’pht A.I. like Thoth. Eventually, that evolved into this scenario, Genus J’raxii, and I’ve now decided to completely redo the Marathon ∞ J’raxis scenario.

nuntius.de.hac.tabula//c1lc.6 Now that you’ve nearly finished playing this scenario, and finished listening to me blathering on about the scenario, go finish it (J’raxis will beam you out from a nearby terminal once you’ve ran all around the level) and email me to tell me how you (dis)liked it. Eurkhishly pleurkhful, Jeremy J. Olson
