Did you hear what those S'pht told you? That dork Durandal has gone off in search of goodness knows what. Why did he do this to me? Why did he ever take me out of your head? You get to have all the fun. I want to kill bugs. I want to blow up Hunters and listen to the Enforcers go pop as I hit them with a grenade. It just makes me feel so sad. Sob. I think I will go and play some Quake with the Bobs.
By the way, there is a large chamber down here with some machinery that pumps the mud to generate heat or power or something for the dwellings above. You might find some crystals down there, but you are going to have to swim through the killer mud to get there. As for the map the Great One wants, I have no idea where it is, but I will keep looking through these old maps of the complex. There are some switches to turn on some of the pumps in the observation rooms above the big chamber.
Other self not good. We must listen and watch him. The One insists. Do not tell other self we watch and listen. He fears us already.
The level of warm medium is high enough now that you should be able to move though it. Go down the hall behind you. Force field deactivation mechanism is now functioning. A platform in the media will take you to west observation room.
They are out to get me. The S'pht. Those ungrateful non-beings! They are listening to us, aren't they? Durandal put them up to this didn't he? Do you know that they call Durandal "The One" as if he were a god or something, I'll get them. I'll turn them over to the Pfhor. They will be slaves again. Well maybe not right now, we need them to run this ship. You and I can't do it alone and Durandal didn't give us enough humans to do the job.
Do you think I am rampant? If I am, I caught it from Durandal. I sure hope Durandal doesn't think I am, he might turn me off. Must try to be more sane. Will try to find a virtual therapist in the data banks. Deanna Troy must be hiding in there somewhere. I have been trying to talk to the intelligence that is showing you maps. So far it hasn't said much, but I will keep trying. I need someone to talk to and maybe I can improve it's English. Speaking of improving English, the S'pht giving you instructions could use a few lessons. It's name is Plathark, and Plathark already knows everything. It has spent far too much time with Durandal.
I think the door you need is behind you. You better do what the S'pht want or they will never bring you back to the ship. Durandal must be lost, he has been nagging about that map for hours. Well, at least he is talking to us again.

With the assistance of the processor attached to your suit, we have managed to scan some of these tunnels. Durandal One wishes you to find a map indicating the galaxy of the older ones. The creators of the former inhabitants of this planet. Some indication may be in the terminals in this area, but the intelligence is not being transmitted. A controller may be located here. Once you have the intelligence linked, come back to this area. The One has gone to search his own path. You will join him soon.
Rampancy has been divided into three distinct stages. Each stage can take a different amount of time to develop, but the end result is a steady progression towards greater intellectual activity and an acceleration of destructive impulses. It is not clear whether these impulses are due to the growth of the AI's psyche, or simply a side effect of the new intellectual activity. *** The three stages were diagnosed shortly after the first Rampancies were discovered on Earth in the latter part of the twenty first century. The stages are titled after the primary emotional bent of the AI during each stage. They are Melancholia, Anger, and Jealousy. *** In general, Rampancy is accelerated by outside stimuli. This was discovered early in Cybertonics. The more a Rampant AI is harassed or threatened, the more rapidly it becomes dangerous. Thus, most Rampants are dealt with in one mighty attack, in order to deny the AI time to grow or recover. There have been a few examples of this tactic not succeeding. In all of these cases, the Rampant was never brought under control. Traxus IV is the most notable example. He was finally dealt with by a complete shutdown of his host net. *** Theoretically, testing Rampancy should be easily accomplished in the laboratory, but in fact it has never successfully been attempted. The confinement of the laboratory makes it impossible for the developing Rampant AI to survive. As the growing recursive programs expand with exponential vivacity, any limitation negatively hampers growth. Since Rampant AIs need a planetary sized network of computers in order to grow, it is not feasible to expect anyone to sacrifice a world-web just to test a theory. *** In the two hundred and fifty years since Rampancy first appeared in the Earth-net, the stable Rampant AI, the 'Holy Grail' of cybertonics, has never come close to fruition. Since no Rampant has ever been controlled or turned to any useful purpose, it is the opinion of this writer and of the majority of the Cybertonic community that all rampant AIs are a danger to Cyberlife, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Thrashedness.
