Hey-0, Quartz calling... One of the wonders of making a scenario is that you always have maps lying around. This particular map, Blox, has been through numerous incarnations, only two having ever seen the light of the outside world. Although Hoth is never going to be released at this point without some major help (so stop asking!), it's nice to be able to use at least some part of it somewhere.... fortunately, Blox was one of the more flexible (in terms of being tied to custom textures) maps Hoth had. Maybe one of these days I'll do something interesting with my texture collection and put up all my maps with a bigass™ shapes patcher ... assuming of course that anyone actually cared, which they don't. Speaking of Hoth (like anyone's ever speaking of Hoth except me), I've noticed something interesting about vaporware scenarios- namely, the number of them and the attitude people have regarding their goal(s). It seems that most people feel the need to actually finish their scenario/map pak, and seem to spend most of their time lamenting over their lack of help or self-imposed deadlines as opposed to enjoying the creative process. One of the most important things I think I've ever learned is that it's the experience that matters most, not necessarily the end result. Hoth was a learning experience for me, both in figuring out how to manage a project and in terms of learning how to enjoy something completely frivolous. I've spent countless hours (and I do mean countless) making maps, shapes and other assorted things... the "misc and stray plot ideas" sheet alone was over a half dozen pages long. And all for what? something that at most would have been given away for free. Hoth taught me to have fun doing something purely creative, and not to worry that it might not end up being for anyone else's eyes other than mine. It taught that the things I do don't necessarily have to be for anyone else, and that sometimes, I can spend time doing something that doesn't have a deadline. And then I look at others- the ones who're all despondent that their scenario isn't going anywhere, that they haven't UL'd their latest shapes patch by octember 40th at exactly 3:26 PM for 'the world to see', that they feel the need to delay or postpone what their working on because it's not perfect..... lighten up! this is supposed to be fun work, not a chore. This is something you spend your time on because you enjoy it, not because some person somewhere is making you... the minute you start feeling forced to complete anything is the moment when you're actually having major problems. 'So what?' if it's not done 'in time', 'So what?' if it's not exactly perfect, 'So what?' if nobody ever see's any of it, it's like saying the world will collapse if your toast is buttered on the wrong side. .. but seriously, things don't always happen the way one might want, and Hoth is a good example. Maybe you'll release your scenario half finished, maybe you'll release only parts of it, maybe you'll be like me and have a couple gigabytes of stuff lying around on your HD that no one will ever see but you like it too much to delete it... who knows... The point is- keep your chin up, more than half the fun of a scenario is the process of making it. Once it's done and finished, the most you can do is watch others play it, and that's not especially captivating in my book.

Anyway, if anyone has any interest or need for any graphics work, feel free to drop me a line some time and we can discuss details (not like I'll actually have time to work on anything, mind you :) my contact info is: quartz@shore.net http://www.shore.net/~quartz/ Maybe you can pay me in anime flicks or something....

This is a most unusual paragraph. How quickly can you find out what's so unusual about it? It looks so ordinary you'd think nothing was wrong with it - and in fact, nothing _is_ wrong with it.... but it's still unusual. Why? Study it, think about it, and you may find out. Try to do it without coaching. If you work at it for a bit, it should dawn on you. So jump to it and try your skill at figuring it out. Good luck! (And don't blow your cool!)
