15: Valley of the Damned

Time: 17:26, September 19 Location: Pfhor missile center The situation on the Acheron is unsalvagable. It is completely impossible, at this point, to recover the ship, even with your assistance. So what we've done on the ship is primed some of their ultra-concussive warheads for explosion, then jumped ship. It will explode brilliantly in the sky shortly. Thankfully for our masterful creativity, the same task will apply to your half of the deal, too.

As I said, this structure, which was once a Renegade facility and now is held by the Pfhor, is used to house a number of nuclear missiles, which have been unused. We want these missiles. The majority of the Pfhor that still remain on the surface of Artemis are in one very large installation, where they are regrouping and banding together for another assault on the Istanbul. Without the Renegades to distract them, the Pfhor can attack us with a much stronger force -- one that we cannot defend against.

Your task, then, is twofold. One, you need to readjust their current arming status to "primed," which should be the simple task of flicking a switch. It's in the administration center, at the far north end of the facility. The other task will be finding one of the missile silos and reprogramming the missile system's computer to change the coordinates to that of the Pfhor military installation. Those coordinates are: 33X25C 92X43C 88X27C

We need you to be quick about this. Our estimates give us maybe four hours before the Pfhor are ready to attack us again, and we really want to deliver the final blow to these assholes, just as we did the Akn. So get moving. And be careful, please. The facility has a lot of small dam systems to keep lava from spilling into important regions. You may have to manipulate these systems in order to get around.

Remember what I said about having to manipulate dam systems? In order to enter the main structure, you'll have to do so by draining the lava from here. Why they did it like this, we may never know, but it's nevertheless your task to drain it. Unfortunately, it's somewhere underneath the lava right outside. You can look over the body of boiling magma through the window to your right. One of the scientists on the Istanbul found an Invincibility Biobus Chip Enhancement. We've teleported it into you; it's lying opposite this partition. Use it, then go into the lava and find the dam control switch to drain the place. Then continue on.

Through these two doors behind the partition lies the administration building, where nuclear control is done. Gaining access to the building should be as simple as locating the two switches required to reverse the security. Don't forget, though, that you also have to realign the coordinates for the missiles. The grid is set up so that any one computer can aim all of them; you'll want to do it through that particular venue. When you finish up, return to this terminal so we can all go home.

success

Well, I'd like to say you're done, and in a sense, you are; at any rate, the Pfhor threat is going to be extinguished here on Artemis in about ten minutes, and we've already evacuated the Acheron; that should explode promptly. But it's too little, too late.

Whatever standing forces remained of the Renegade S'pht on Artemis after the tower fell have already managed to regather and have formed a single attack on the Istanbul before the Pfhor were even ready to do the same. How they figured out where we were is a mystery to me, but at any rate, we're currently at a state of "holy mother of god, someone help us." We're pulling you back to the ship immediately. The rest of our crew is ready to go, but you have one last battle to fight.
