6: Panic Attack

We're almost there. Are we? Yes. In fact, I do believe we are within one kilometer of the ship's power nexus, and with that, enough energy to survive forever. No kidding. No kidding. And, given the insects' collective conspiracy to try and outwit our gambit, it appears they may be forming to make their last stand against us. This part seems familiar. It seems like, whenever we get really close to accomplishing the main objective, the whole universe has to rally against us. Yes. It seems that that is the nature of these things. Figures.

Cheer up. As I said, we are very nearly there, so before too long we will have everything we will ever need in our grasp. That's wonderful. So, what sort of arbitrary obstruction do we have to overcome? It's hardly arbitrary. Whatever. The power nexus forms the single most valuable object on this ship. Therefore, it is securely guarded, with only one method of entrance -- through this region. Guarded? With what? ...Bad breath? Colorful language? What do you think it's guarded with? Creatures with guns. Pay attention.

Alright, fine. Things with guns. I can handle that. Certainly you can. In fact, that appears to be the last obstruction. I've finally overcome the mainframe's defenses, and I now control nearly the entire communications network. All that remains is for you to manually breach their security system and enter the power nexus itself. And plug ourselves into them, of course. Well, of course. That's perfectly fine and all, but if all I had to do were kill yet another legion of bipedal cave-dwellers, this wouldn't be so long-winded. What else do I have to do? First of all, I don't believe they live in caves. There are obviously no caves on board this starship. Well it's certainly dark enough!

Secondly, the power nexus and surrounding areas are securely protected by five sequential blast-proof doors. There seems to be some kind of external, physical lockdown on the remote controls, so the only way for us to manipulate them would be to find the control room. And I don't believe that's in this region. Go on. You'll like this part, I think -- it appears that the only way for us to directly bypass these doors is to rip out the control mechanism keeping them shut. Gravity should then pull them open. Is that how it works? ...Apparently. Now, these mechanisms will be clearly marked, because according to some documents here, they need to receive regular maintenance to keep those doors shut at all necessary times. Look for bright red panels, or some such thing. Remember that there are five in all.

Seems easy enough. Yes, well, tread lightly; there is no shortage of that molten liquid that the ship's previous owners thought to put around everywhere. One bad step could send us both into the inferno. Please don't do that to us. I haven't so far, have I? Have no fear. I can keep things sorted out. Right. Well. There is one thing, though. Go on. You mentioned that the only way to directly bypass the locking mechanism is to break it. Is there some sort of indirect method?

You're asking how to be more subtle? Shut up. Well, there are some references here to something. It appears that there is a "very important key" that's held on the opposite side of these doors, and that if security is breached, the key will be inaccessible. Will we need this key to access the power nexus? I'm... not sure. It doesn't clearly state if we will or not. I would assume this means we don't need it, but who can tell? If you can find a way to circumvent their security doors in an alternative fashion, you might as well. Alright... and if I don't find this route? Then you might as well break the computers. Now get to it.
