3: Enchanting New Mexico

Oh good, the area is secure. I had wanted you to attack this power station and keep the local garrisons on their toes, but it seems the Pfhor knew we were coming. On top of that, another bunch of bugs showed up at the gates to that computing facility, so we have diverted about half of the initial attack force back to defending the previously-captured grounds. That pretty much just leaves you. I'm nervous to send more men into this building than necessary; I figure the bugs are pretty well entrenched in there.

This tower serves as a geothermal power plant for all of the garrisons and facilities in the region. The energy is harvested from four vats of lava, which is operated by four automated pumping systems. Pfhor geothermal energy harvesting is a lot more advanced than I thought... but then again, this is an unusual building for the Pfhor. Your objective will be to destroy these systems. Logically, the four pumps are going to be in the basement of the tower. Find a way down there while I figure out more details for the mission. Because of the diversion, you won't have as many reinforcements as I had hoped, but I think you can manage. When you're all done, return here.

Excellent work. Scans are showing power outages in several buildings throughout the region; backup power systems will be in action shortly, but their primary systems will be in disarray. The Pfhor in the region will be lost and confused until they get this station back online. This is exactly what we needed, but the timing couldn't be worse. A Pfhor cruiser just warped into the system and is heading straight for the Istanbul. We're in no condition to take another boarding party, and we don't have any real firepower; a Pfhor ship-of-the-line would easily destroy us.

This isn't a position I wanted to be in. Engaging the Pfhor in a battle like this would be suicide, but we're already too involved to try and escape the system. The only thing I can think of is... oh, I don't like this one bit. I'm going to send you aboard this ship; anything you can do to disrupt or disable it will be all to the good for us. Prepare yourself. This won't be easy.

I've got more details for you. You may have noticed that direct access to the basement has been sealed off. However, there are four thermal exhaust ports on the rooftop; all of them should lead down to the basement. Unfortunately, you're the only one who could survive the fall -- and the heat. Their pumping system is divided into four sectors. Each sector has its own automated regulator, which you'll have to destroy. Look for exposed wires or machinery to break; your Fusion Cannon should get the job done with a charged bolt. But be careful; destroying each automator will probably cause the lava pools to overflow. The automators keep the intake of extra lava in check as well, so destroying them will destroy the monitor system. You've dealt with this kind of stuff before, so I know you can do it if anyone can.

[Pfhor translator active] Notice #1 The Human intrusion into the geo-power facility must be stopped immediately. All forces stationed on the premises must readily take arms against the attack. The loss of the facility will be disastrous in our battle against the native forces. Indeed, be on the lookout for any additional attacks from them during the defense. We shall not fall to a group of opportunists. Failure to comply with this notice will result in the maximum punishment allowed by the Noncompliant Soldier and Officer Protocol #44B2-7.

Notice #2: No smoking.

Especially not someone operating in a human tongue. But if that's the case, then that must mean... But you aren't human, are you? So if that's the case, then you must be... Ah. You're here earlier than I expected you to be, but... why are you here? You don't have any time to waste.
