4: The Bistromath

I don't think anyone on board a goddamned research ship was expecting to be attacking a Pfhor corvette, but this is the situation I find myself in. The UESC required me to take several leadership aptitude exams before I could do research on one of their ships, and I did well enough on them that they wanted me to go into officer training. They begged me, they bribed me, and they threatened me, but war doesn't interest me. Ultimately, there was a compromise: if I went through an accelerated leadership course, they would give me a position on the most prized research vessel in the fleet, the Atreides. I never got that position: the bastards made me the administrator of an OREL ship instead. But I guess that worked out well enough for me, considering the alternative.

Most advanced Pfhor technology requires copious amounts of an exotic cooling fluid pumping through it at all times in order to maintain an operable temperature. You're probably familiar with their storage methods: letting it stand in massive unguarded vats. Anyway, technology such as the signal disruptor that prevents conventional teleportation of organic beings requires this coolant flowing over it at nearly all times. Your mission will be to disrupt the coolant flow to their signal disruptor by deactivating two coolant pumps on this deck. Once that's down, the S'pht'Kr have offered to make a heavy attack on the rest of the ship. With their resistances lowered, I doubt our friends will have much trouble.

There is likely some kind of security system in place; it doesn't look like you can pass directly into the pumping station. You may have to explore the rest of the deck a little bit in order to circumvent their security. Return here once you're finished.

Well done! According to my scans, the signal disruptor promptly exploded from overheating, causing a hull breach two decks down and sending half a brigade out into space via depressurization. What are the odds of that? The S'pht'Kr are already mobilizing to subdue the rest of the Pfhor. They apparently have some degree of experience in operating Pfhor technology; if it all works out, they can use this ship to defend the Istanbul from any more attacks. You won't be here to aid them.

The research team has been scanning Artemis, and they have concluded there is a presence of distinctly non-Pfhor technology below. This jives with the information you found earlier today in your first attack on their base, as well as the fact that... well, obviously the Pfhor didn't build that garrison. I'm going to put you back down on the planet. Just you, this time. The Pfhor are in some kind of engagement on the surface; I think you'll be better off attracting less attention, so a more subtle approach may be appropriate, I think. We'll see!

Ship-wide alert This alert applies to all crew of any rank: Protector-class corvette issue number 475168 has been boarded by Humans. They are not well-organized, but they do rally behind the rogue conditioned unit that has been associated with several Imperial Navy failures of the previous 25 years. It is imperative to the continued success and efficiency of Naval Branch 7-4DH that this latest incursion is quickly contained and that the Human force is dispatched. A productivity loss of more than 6.5 hours as a result of this interruption will be met with the maximum allowable punishment.

Good move, you found some sort of engineering room. See if you can't find something to break here. Exposed wiring or something tends to be pretty susceptible to grenades. If these control what I think they do, you should be able to head... "north" into the pumping station.

Yeah, this is the coolant pumping access room. If you turn around and look up, you should be able to see the control panels you need to toggle. These switches are notoriously vulnerable to operation by concussive blasts, but there is another switch on the opposite side that you might need to manually operate. Unless you can find a ledge to hit it from. Just follow the corridor to the right and look for a way to reach the pump controls. When you're done, head back to the entry point.
